Minecraft Education Edition Released In November

After a long summer of test runs the full version of Minecraft: Education Edition will officially launch on the 1st of November. When it is launched the service will require a $5 yearly membership per user or a district-wide licence, but the Early Access edition is still free until November.



According to the MinecraftEdu team, over 35,000 students and teachers from around the globe have played in the sandbox of Minecraft since the program went live at the beginning of summer. The team has added a couple of features that are geared towards education to the official release. CITIZENSNPCS This includes a "Classroom Mode" which gives a top-down view of the Minecraft world via a companion application. The app lets teachers manage the settings of the world, talk with students in-game as well as give them items and move their children around the map with an interface that is unified. As the main Minecraft world evolves and gets new features, so does the education edition. educators are encouraged to submit ideas for features and provide feedback.



Finally, for any teachers who haven't stepped into Minecraft's blocky world yet, education.minecraft.net offers some starter worlds, tutorials, free lesson plans in subjects ranging from storytelling to city planning, and a mentoring program to connect them with other educators.
