Minecraft developer Mojang Studios is taking a firm stance against NFTs. City2020 In a blog entry titled "Minecraft and NFTs," the studio, which is owned by Microsoft, wrote that "integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are not something we will be able to support or allow."

Mojang stated that blockchain technology isn't allowed to be integrated into our client or server applications. "To ensure that Minecraft players enjoy a safe and inclusive experience, we do not allow will Minecraft in-game content like worlds, skins or persona items be used by blockchain technology to create an exclusive digital asset."

Mojang claims that some companies have developed "NFT Implementations that are bundled with Minecraft World Files and Skin Packs." This suggests that Minecraft players could potentially earn NFTs from playing on a server or through earning them outside of Minecraft.

Mojang believes that these practices create digital exclusion and scarcity which is in direct contradiction to the ideals of Minecraft. Mojang has stated that NFTs "are not inclusive of all communities and create a situation that has-nots and have-nots are a part of the same." City2020 Mojang also says that NFTs are speculative and "encourages profiteering."

I strongly suggest that you read the entire blog post, as it succinctly lays out a variety of critiques of NFTs and blockchain-related projects in a language that is simple to comprehend. (There are many more quotes that I could have included.)

Valve has also taken a strong stand against NFTs and blockchain-based games on Steam. Most of the gaming community has rejected NFTs. Ubisoft stopped making NFTs to Ghost Recon Breakpoint only a few months after the initiative launched. Epic Games stated last year that it is "open" for blockchain games to be made available on the Epic Games Store. The store was the first to receive a blockchain-based game in June.

While Mojang doesn't completely shut the possibility of incorporating blockchain in the future, it concludes by declaring that "we have no plans of implementing blockchain technology into Minecraft at the moment."
