Teenager Arrested Over Mass College Bomb Hoax

A teenager thought to be at the centre of a Minecraft gamers' dispute was arrested following a mass bomb hoax closed hundreds of colleges and schools across the UK.



Hertfordshire police detained the 19-year-old after 24,000 threatening emails sent to schools were sent warning of a bomb attack and soliciting money.



The emails appear to be sent by VeltPvP, a gaming network. VeltPvP is a Minecraft player-versus-player server, which is the kind of server that businesses make use of to sell their products to gamers.



A teenager who is believed to be at the center of an Minecraft gamers feud has been arrested after an attack that engulfed the entire world shut down hundreds of schools across the UK. The 19-year-old was arrested by Hertfordshire police after 24,000 emails were sent to schools warning of an impending attack



The emails were designed to cause the domain to be banned for abuse . They are believed to be sent by an organization that wanted to undermine VeltPvP.



The National Crime Agency (NCA) stated that there was no credible threat to the emails' received this week.

In a statement, they said: 'We understand teachers and parents concern, but stress that there was no threat of serious consequence to the emails schools received.



"However we take the communication seriously. Since this is a live investigation, we are unable to provide further information.' Minecraft Servers



The signs were placed on the outside of Cardinal Road School in Feltham following the bomb hoax emails



The parties involved in the fight claimed opponents had engaged in illegal acts to hinder one another's business.



It's horrible, it's not the nicest thing,' one of hoaxers who were involved in the scam was asked if regrets the impact the letters had had on school pupils who were forced to leave.



In blaming VeltPvP, the hoaxer said the network had enaged in a campaign of Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, which he alleges were used to attempt to block other rival Minecraft servers.



Following the fake bomb email threat, parents were asked to take their children home.



In a statement, VeltPvP said: 'We've been harassed by a group of cybercriminals that are trying to harass us in any way possible.



"We apologize deeply for anyone who was affected by this, but we just want to inform you that this is a fake."



More than 400 schools and colleges across the nation received the email that claimed that an explosive had been planted and would be detonated in the event that cash wasn't given.



Cardinal Road School in Feltham west of London, was among the schools who received the hoax email



Police forces from London, Bristol, Liverpool and Bedfordshire were among those who investigated.



Parents have requested to be allowed to pick up their children from school amid concerns about the emails.



Six schools in Hertfordshire were also affected: Abbots Hill, Valley School, Stevenage, The Sele School, Duncombe School, Stanborough School, Watford, St Albans High School and Valley School.
