Over ten years after the release of Minecraft, a rare early version of Minecraft was thought to have been lost. Minecraft alpha 1.1.1 was released for the first Java Edition in September 2010 and was available for around three hours. Now it's finally been found again by gaming historians.

Over the years, there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. MINECRAFT SERVER LIST Fans have meticulously collected and archived many of them to ensure their preservation. One version, Alpha 1.1.1, or Seecret Saturday was thought to be lost. It introduced fishing rods as well as infiltrating into Minecraft. However, it was found to have a bug that would make the screen completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.

The whole tale of its discovery was shared over Twitter by user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who discovered the lost Alpha 1.1.1. Luna explains that Alpha 1.1.1 was a meme that was common or holy grail in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. No one believed they would find it.

Someone discovered one of Luna's old tweets and inquired about it and she eventually discovered an old backup of minecraft.jar dating the same day as Alpha 1.1.1's release date of September 18 October, 2010. Luna looked over the file and confirmed that it was indeed Alpha 1.1.1, which she then posted on Omniarchive which then exploded.

So I posted in the Omniarchive server, and it's an understatement to say that a few people reacted.

The reactions are enough to make you realize just how huge this find is. I feel like I'm shaking.
